Apple settles with knockoff stores, not Samsung

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Apple must be feeling pleased as punch right now. Or maybe not, considering how busy its keen team of legal eagles have been.
The Cupertino company has settled with two New York shops accused of selling counterfeit Apple products. The shops, Apple Story Inc and Fun Zone, agreed to hand over all products they sell bearing the word Apple. They include headphones, cases, and other accessories for the iPhone, iPad and iPod.
If US District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto approves the settlement, they'll have five days to hand over the products. It would bring to an end the case Apple lodged in July, accusing the shops of trademark infringement.
According to Apple's court filing, the accessories mimic the iconic Apple design, even including the legend: "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China." Apple Story has agreed to change its name, and remove an iPhone-shaped window display.
But Apple's legal wrangles are far from over. Last night, Samsung accused it of patent infringement in Australia. Samsung is saying Apple's iPhone and iPad infringe seven of its patents related to wireless communications standards. It's also looking to invalidate the accusations that it's infringed Apple's patents with its Galaxy range of phones and tablets.
The two companies are now involved in lawsuits with each other over four continents. Guys, just sort it out over a pint like the rest of us.
Apple is suing Samsung in America for "slavishly copying" the iPhone and iPad, and it recently launched a legal action against the company in Japan. Apple still has its fair share of fans in China as well.
