Samsung Windows Phones Get 'High Fidelity Position' AppUsers of a Samsung mobile phone that runs under Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system now have the possibility to try out a new mobile application that the company has made available for their devices. The new 'High Fidelity Position' mobile software was designed to enhance the GPS receiver inside Samsung's Windows Phones, and offers better location capabilities to users. According to Samsung, the application was meant to “Help with pedestrian positioning, especially in areas where GPS is less accurate using other sensors such as accelerometer and compass.” One of the most interesting facts about this application would be the fact that it will not appear on the Windows Phone under Applications after being installed, but that it will be listed in the Settings menu. This is the first application coming from Samsung to do so, though not the only one. Apps from HTC have been recently spotted with similar features, and they come on the newly unveiled HTC Radar and TITAN smartphones. Of course, these devices run under Microsoft's next Windows Phone operating system version, called Mango, and it was only natural to expect a different behavior from software coming from manufacturers. Most probably, other companies will have similar applications as well, which means that Microsoft has finally enabled partners to access more OS resources on their Windows Phone devices. As for the new 'High Fidelity Position' application coming from Samsung, it will work only on handsets running under the Mango OS flavor, and will offer users the possibility to opt out for one of the two settings it brings along. One of them is the 'Use Sensor Aiding' option, which will make good use of the sensors inside the mobile phone, while the other is “GLONASS” (GLObal NAvigation Satellite System), a Russian system that can enhance location availability. Mango will soon arrive on existing mobile phones, as well as on new devices, Samsung's customers will be able to download the new application from the Windows Phone Marketplace here (Zune link) at that time.
