Canon unveils PowerShot S100 compact cam

Canon unveils PowerShot S100 compact cam
Today, Canon adds the S100 PowerShot to its compact snapper range – a camera that sits directly below the uber popular G12. With Canon choosing not to upgrade the G12 for 2011 and discontinue the S95, the S100 is the newest premium snapper in its compact range.
So what's so great about it? For a start, it features a new f/2.0 lens with an extra wide 24mm wide angle, 5x optical zoom and new GPS functionality for a bit of geotagging. Intelligent image stabilisation is also onboard to tackle the blurring caused by shaky hands, alongside six other modes of stabilisation including panning and macro IS.
Its features are complemented nicely by an upgrade to full HD video capture on its 3in screen and the all new and faster Digic 5 processor helping the S100 maintain its svelte 26.7mm figure. That's all in conjunction with its 12.1MP sensor and enhanced HS system for ISO of up to 6400 for reduced noise and high speed snaps. According to Canon, its noise levels are only a quarter of that found on the S95 and its Digic 5 processing speeds are six times faster compared to Digic 4.
Full manual control is on offer and the handy lens ring from the S95 also features on the S100, enabling you to easily alternate between settings for aperture, focus, ISO sensitivity and shutter speed.
Want it? It can be yours in November for £439 in either matte black or titanium silver.
