Samsung has just announced that it's going to release two versions of the Galaxy Player in the U.S. next month. This device won't be a smartphone, instead it is going to be an Android-based handheld computer focused on games, video, and music.
No matter its size, this model is powered by Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), with a new user interface. It will come with the standard suite of Google apps and the Android Market. There will be 8GB of built-in memory and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage.
As there will be no no cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi b/g/n will enable this mini-tablet to access the Web, email, and other online content. Bluetooth will also be included.
In addition, the Galaxy Player is going to include front and rear cameras for video chat and photography.
Price and AvailabilityThe Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 will be available for sale nationwide starting on October 16. The 5-inch version is going to sell for $270, while the 4-inch one will cost $230.
